Strings Attached
Strings Attached is a mixed media animation that explores the theme of matchmaking in Chinese culture. The narrative revolves around the main character, a 32 year-old, single, career woman and her experience being matched. The story depicts negative perceptions of matchmaking in modernity and the conflict of individuality versus traditions and family values. Rather than using dialogue, Strings Attached utilizes sound effects and body gestures for universal appeal. The use of mixed media techniques such as cel animation, stop-motion and AfterEffects and Flash puppeting expresses the main character’s point of view.
